Enterprise Security - Go for the Globe by Deborah L. O'Mara Just what is an enterprise solution and what is this market all about? Suffice to say it has a lot to do with the infrastructure and legacy equipment, the level of analog and IP video, access control and the software running at the protected premises. It's a puzzle if you will, and it's the integrator's job to put the pieces together-using existing and new equipment and software sprinkled with a good knowledge of IT-so the end user can get the solution they need with as little 'pain' as possible. This article looks at how technology is helping integrators find answers. PDF Download

- PSIM as a differentiator in obtaining large contracts
- More evidence that the IT "takeover" of the industry is an internal matter, with personnel turning over rapidly
instead of the long-feared outside "hordes" of IT integrators taking share
- On a case-by-case basis, vendors, integrators and end-users seemingly settling on a menu of video analytics to provide the highest utility for given projects. This has both improved the reputation of analytics and caused several vendors to integrate

Software locates usable information from a mass of data There's a contradiction built into the idea of an integrated security system. The perfect security system would monitor every square inch of a protected area, send an instant alarm, swing surveillance cameras into place, deny access to intruders and allow access to authorized personnel the instant an event occurs. Although everything would be viewed, the system should only respond to events that concern security. How, from a mass of data, does one distill usable information? With more data, it is harder to know what's significant, but if there's not enough data, something important might get missed. PDF Download
